ATTENDANCE POLICY
ECAI-2024 is planned as an in-person event. We will not be able to facilitate remote presentation of papers or live streaming of talks. At least one author of each accepted paper must register for the conference by the early registration deadline with the intention of presenting the paper at the conference. This is a prerequisite for inclusion in the proceedings.
This policy is the result of careful considerations by the organising team and informed by the input of many members of our community. A core objective of ECAI is to serve as a meeting place for the international AI community, facilitating scientific networking and a lively exchange of ideas. While online meetings also have their place, this objective is best served by an in-person event. Running the conference in a hybrid mode, where some present in person and some online, would significantly lower the quality of the experience for those present on site while also not being satisfactory for remote participants. It also would significantly increase costs, which in turn would require noticeable increases in the registration fees for everyone.
We acknowledge that no attendance policy is perfect. Specifically, any in-person event will have a negative impact on the climate and any in-person event will exclude some individuals, be it for financial or geopolitical reasons. But we believe that the attendance policy adopted by ECAI is the best possible compromise for this event.
